our star. first test run on the new 70mm travel telescope for the path of totality Monday. a few notes on solar photography: -summer is a miserable fucking time for it. -the glare is incredible. -the heat is intense. -insects are horrible distractions… as are other human beings during what is a frighteningly tedious mechanical intercourse, so much in fact that you may be tempted to throw smaller scopes at passers by. -it’s significantly more complicated than it looks. -aligning your scope with the sun (or anything for that matter) with a solar filter on is incredibly difficult and time consuming as you can see absolutely nothing BUT the sun, and only if it’s properly aligned. -smaller successes (such as this one) will be over glorified.
to anyone out there doing this whether on purpose or by accident, I salute you. but hey look! sunspots!!
