My first encounter of this rare old glass technique called Glue Chipped

My first encounter of this rare old glass technique called Glue Chipped Glass. I came across this beautiful handmade reverse glass sign while visiting Disneyland in Anaheim, California in 1990. I was 23 and on my way to New Zealand with my wife for the very first time. We had arranged 2 days to stop over in Los Angeles which was so exciting for a young couple especially as it was our first time in America. We were walking around the Disney Park and I came across this gilded glass sign. Seeing this work was a huge turning point in my career. It lead not only on to discovering a new embossing technique but also onto meeting a man that shared so much of his craft with me and many others, glass gilder and sign artist, the late Rick Glawson who was based in Wilmington at the Fine Gold Sign Company. I’m not sure if Rick made this panel but I do know that he was involved in teaching many Disney Sign artists these beautiful techniques. Thanks for sharing @scottboms good to see this again and bring back early glue chipping memories!! #art #gilded #glassgilding #graphicdesign #goldleaf #signwriting #signpainter #handmade #typography #typeinspire #colddrinks
