I must add a slight amendment to yesterday’s post, I’ve had quite a few people ask me if I oil paint directly over the graphite drawing. I don’t for a couple of reasons, firstly the oil can have trouble adhering to the the shiny areas of graphite, and secondly the graphite can lift and muddy up your oil glazes. So after I sketch out my work I use a fixative over the drawing and then seal with several layers of clear acrylic gesso and finally give it a gentle sanding (you can see in the video the drawing is not at all affected by this) and brush away the dust and I’m good to go!
