✨Diabetes … Watermelon? Really?!?!?✨
YES! Let’s end some confusion. These general principles apply to people living with diabetes.
1. If you eat a medium to high fat diet (anything above 15% of total calories), you blood glucose will sky rocket when eating watermelon.
2. If you consistently eat a low-fat diet (MAX 15% calories from fat) and move your body, you will likely still see a larger and quicker rise in blood glucose with watermelon than fruits like berries.
3. That rise in blood glucose will be within healthy normal range if you eat the melon slowly.
I ate 1,906 grams of edible watermelon for breakfast. That’s 4.1 pounds. Total carbohydrate was 144 grams. I injected 6.5u humalog. The highest my BG went was 164 AND it’s stayed there for only a few minutes before coming down into the 120’s. As a person living with type 1 diabetes, I’m quite happy with that. #diabetes #fruit
